NETIZENS TOUR TO
KHEWRA MINES,
KATAS VALLEY &
KALAR KAHAR
Report by Sahar
Iqbal & Sana Anum (2nd Yr)
Netizens is all
about setting new trends. Trip to salt mines is yet another front
where education was amalgamated with! Due to untiring efforts of
Dr. Imtiaz A Dogar (Head of Psychiatry Dept. and Behavioral
Sciences), Madam Aimen Bukhari and faculty of the Psychiatry
Department; the trip was a great success.
The Netizens troupe comprising
of 53 members from all the classes left in 2 A.C coasters punctually at
08:30 AM. The journey was enjoyable, thanks to the motorway and the
conducive environment of the coaster. Seniors and juniors irrespective of
their classes intermingled freely and also got to know the teachers better.
After brief stop over at Bhera, the coasters reached the destined site;
Khewra Salt Mines at 11:30 AM. The mines with their natural air conditioning
provided an instant relief from the scorching sun outside.

The Netizens team was
courteously greeted and led by a guide. The tour was of the 6th
and the 7th floor with 11 floors lying below and 5 above. The
mines were barely lit, with treacherous terrain and salac tites; could be
easily mistaken for a movie set.
The highlights of the salt
mines were a beautifully lit mosque, asthma hospital and a monument; all
made of salt bricks. There were huge caverns and slat lakes in brief
intervals. The students amazed by the beauty, clicked away with their
cameras and took some memorable pictures. Soon it was time to leave for
lunch which was arranged by Dr. Khalid Gondal at Al-Beruni Govt. College,
Khewra.
The delicious meal satiated
the appetite of the team and the ice-cream at the end combated the heat
well.

At 03:00 PM, the busses
ascended on a zigzag route to the picturesque Katas valley. The students
appreciated the historical significance and loved the scenery. The temples
top the hill and the calm blue green lake at the foot was a beautiful
contrast.
Now it was time to reach the
last destination where there were rides, boating and local food stalls.
After a brief stay, the troupe left for Faisalabad.
Though everyone was tired, the
spirits were high. Many hidden talents came to surface with ghazals, poetry
and even tappas!

At 08:00 PM, the trip ended
and students left for home with bag full of memories.
The organizers of the trip
would specially like to thank Prof. Dr. Riaz Hussain Dab (Principal PMC),
Dr. Imtiaz A Dogar, Miss Aimen Bukhari, Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Khalid Gondal, and all the students of PMC.
The success of the trip is
suggestive of how such activities should be promoted in the future.
