 De
Department of Surgery consists
of four Surgical Units. Three of them are in Allied Hospital and
one in DHQ Hospital. Details of each unit is given below.
The Unit
is headed by young and dynamic Prof. Dr. Yawar Saeed. He has
special interest in laparoscopic, Thoracic & upper GIT surgery. The rest of teaching faculty
consists of Associate Prof. Dr. M. Faisal Bilal Lodhi, Assistant
Professor Dr. Akram, Senior Registrar Dr. Sumaira Kanawal and
Senior Registrar / Admin registrar Dr. Abdul Rauf.
This 54 bedded unit deals with all kinds of surgical emergencies
and elective surgical procedures.
These are
regular post graduate training classes comprising of twice
weekly grand Teaching journal club, clinical case discussions
and talks.
Regular
evening classes are arranged for undergraduate students.
This unit
is also holding hospital based clinical pathological conference
on weekly basis. All the faculty members of this unit have
attended the (ATLS) cover. (ATLS) advanced trauma life support
management of trauma patients have been started as pilot project
in emergency ward with an intention to make it as a standard for
trauma case. Surgical Unit III in actively involved in research.
There are eight research projects which are being carried out in
this Unit. All the postgraduate trainees are given research
projects in addition to their (FCPS) dissertation.
State of
the art patient case, effective postgraduate and under graduate
teaching and training are important features of this Unit.
Presently
rendering its clinical services for DHQ Faisalabad, the unit provides emergency covers seven days a
week, out patient clinic six days a week and operating room
activity 4 days a week. For convenience of management, it has
been divided into Liaqat Ward and Iqbal ward. It comprises of
the following galaxy of teaching and non teaching staff.

The unit is
well known for Laaparoscopic Biliary Track, upper GI Track,
Lower GI track, Thoracic, Head and Neck, Vascular, Trauma and
Endocrinesurgery.Thr unit continuously endeavoring to excel in
advance laproscopic and other techniques of minimally invasive
surgery. A significant number of research project are being
carried out in the unit. The is dedicatedly involved in teaching
undergraduates and post graduates at every level. The unit is
grateful to principal Punjab Medical College and the
administration of DHQ for their facilitation and patronization
in every respect.
