Department of Surgery consists
of four Surgical Units. Three of them are in Allied Hospital and
one in DHQ Hospital. Details of each unit is given below.

Prof. Dr. Riaz Hussain is
head of the surgical department and Incharge of surgical unit
-1.
This unit
is actively involved in the teaching and training of
undergraduates and postgraduates. Prof. Dr. Riaz Hussain (FRCS,
FCPS) is the head of the unit which comprises of 09 consultants /
Fellows including Dr. Tariq Farooq, Dr. M. Shafiq, Dr. Faisal
Bilal Lodhi, Dr. M. Akram, Dr. M. Ali, Dr. Saira, Dr. Naeemullah,
Dr. Sumera and Dr. Dilawaiz. Dr. Sultan Mehmood is the Admn.
Registrar.
Surgical unit-1 consists of 56
beds including male and female beds. Unit deals surgical emergencies
and elective cases. In Emergency ward trauma surgeon
(Postgraduate) remains on duty and surgery is being carried out
under his close supervision. Specialties of this unit are biliary and thyroid surgery for which many patients come with
references from other cities. Twenty four postgraduate trainee
registrars are in this unit. Seven candidates trained in this
unit in the last five years are now working in different cities
of Pakistan and abroad after passing their fellowship and M.S.
Examination.
The
Unit-II of Surgical Department of Punjab Medical College/Allied
Hospital has Dr. Yousaf Shah.
The
results of FCPS surgery candidates from this unit surpassed all
previous results and boast in having variable Senior Registrars
in
the unit. The
Consultants of this unit have varied surgical interests like
Urology, Thyroid, Biliary Surgery, Thoracic Surgery and not the
least Laparoscopic Surgery.
The
Unit has also set up and maintained the only "Breast Clinic" in
the hospital.
The
unit has a well equipped medical Library within the ward.
Surgical Audit of the under and Postgraduates is being carried
out in the unit. The undergraduates are being assessed by the
most recent method of evaluation "The OSCE"
