Pakistan Medical Research Council (PMRC), an autonomous research organization is in existence for over four decades striving to under take its major functions of promoting, organization and coordinating health research in the country. The Council has established research centers (presently 13) in the public sector medical academic institutions with the assumption that the major health research capacity lies in these institutions and that by assisting and facilitating their health research efforts the Council will fulfill its objective of establishing the role of knowledge in improving the health status of people of Pakistan.

PMRC Research Centre, Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad was established in the year 1982-83. the main objectives of the Centre include provision of technical assistance to postgraduate students from amongst the academic staff for development, execution and write-up of their dissertation research work. Research proposals are scrutinized by the institutional ethical review committee before execution of the research work. Besides, the Centre is also doing job of research orientation in undergraduate (4th year) students while collaborating with Community Medicine Department of the institute. This research activity is followed by an undergraduate research competition award ceremony in which the assigned research work done by the young research students is acknowledged by conferring upon them appreciation certificates by some dignitary.

The holding of other co-research activities is an integral part of Centre's functions. Every other month, it organizes a seminar on important medical issue and research methodology workshops for students from. time to time. The Centre has also embarked upon publishing of its official Newsletter, namely 'Medical Researcher' to project its research activities in the institution along with other salient news and information from local sister organizations.

The Centre is progressing under the dynamic supervision and patronage of Prof. Asghar Ali(Principal), Honorary Director and Prof. Riaz Hussain (Prof. of Surgery), Honorary Principal Research Officer. Whereas, Dr. Syed Jawad Husain is heading the Centre as its Officer Incharge. The functions of the Centre are guided upon by a local Advisory Committee constituted out of senior academic members of the institution, teamed professors of the research field and head of sister research organizations.
