The
Department of Plastic Surgery and Burn Started Functioning at
its present location in Allied Hospital, Faisalabad in June
1999.
Out of
total 30 beds, 12 are allocated to Burn Patients and 18 are
reserved for Plastic Surgery Patients. The department is Headed
by Assistant Professor Dr. Zahid Mehmood Nagra.
The other
Staff consists of 2 Senior surgeons, one Admin Registrar and 4
House Surgeons.
A number
of developments have been made in the unit with the help the
citizens of Faisalabad. Including Air conditioning of the ward
and was area for burn patients. The construction and
installation of all the equipment for a separate Plastic Surgery
Operation theatre Complex.
The work
load in year 2008 was OPD = 5629. Indoor = 1059 and surgeries =
1687. These figures are higher than previous years. Doing two
OPD and two operative lists a week the department caters to the
need of Burn and Reconstructive Surgery patients of the city and
surrounding areas.
This
department is a leader of Cleft Lip and Cleft palate care in
Pakistan. Maximum number of cleft patients are operated by the
department has the privilege of being the 5th biggest center for
Cleft Care in the whole world.
The
Department has already played active role in academic
activities. It has successfully organized 5th International
Conference of Pakistan Association of Plastic Surgeons. First
Ever Cleft symposium on Management of Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate
was organized in which Plastic Surgeons from Pakistan and abroad
participated.
The
department has its own library and regular academic activities
are held along with many ongoing research projects. A state of
Art Model Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit is under construction by
the Government which will cater the Burn and Plastic Surgery
patients of this region and shall provide all treatment,
medicines according to current international standards.
