The
Department of Pediatrics, a 78 bedded well-equipped unit,
started as a small ward in DHQ Hospital, Faisalabad. It is now a
well established unit in Allied Hospital, Faisalabad providing
round the clock emergency,T preventive and curative services to
children of Faisalabad and its peripheral suburbs. It also
provides peri-natal coverage to neonates delivered at Obstetrics
Department Allied Hospital, Faisalabad. The ward is further
divided into various subsections like Intensive Care,
Nephrology, Hematology, Gastroenterology and Neonatology. The
Neonatal Unit is one of the busiest unit in Faisalabad. It has
Central Oxygen Supply, incubators, pulse oximeters, cardiac
monitors, phototherapy units and of course trained & dedicated
staff. It has a capacity of 20 beds, which is often over
occupied.
The
admissions of the patients in the Pediatric Unit is increasing
day be day. In the year 2005, more than 7500 children were
admitted in the ward and most of them as emergency. This is
attributed to extended care, daily consultant OPD, follow-up
clinics and free medicines provided to the admitted patients
with the help of affluent citizens.

The
Department of Pediatrics is headed by Professor Dr. Ghulam Raza
Baloch. The teaching staff includes one Associate Professor, two
Assistant Professors and a Senior Registrar. The teaching staff
is actively engaged in teaching of both under graduate and
post-graduate students along with the research activities. There
are 16 FCPS and 3 MCPS trainees at present and more than a dozen
fellow have been produced during last 5 years. About 17 research
papers have also been published in the various journals and many
others are in the pipeline. We are also on the way to improve
our Intensive Care and Neonatal Unit to provide advanced
pediatric life support. The creation of a second Pediatric Unit
is in process and is going to be accomplished soon. We intend to
make this unit a center of excellence and a model tertiary care
referral center in future with the help of Hospital and college
administration.
