The department of Pathology started its academic session in 1975 and Professor Dr. Fateh Mohammed (late) was its first head of Department. In 1982, the department was shifted to the present site. In 1982, the department hosted the National Pathology Conference which was again organized by the department in 1997. This was well attended by the delegates of the country.

The Pathology Department provides facility of histopathology, cytology and special hematology to the patients of attached hospitals. In 2005, more than 4,000 biopsies, 1,000 FNACs and 4,00 bone marrow aspirations have been conducted.

The department is actively engaged in academic activities for 3rd year and 4th Year classes. The Department has encouraged its staff members to acquire higher education. There are more than 20 publications on the credit of the department and 25 presentations in different national and international conferences.

This department consists of a Lecture hall, 2 Pathology labs, a Museum, & a Histo-pathology section. Histo-pathology section deals with cases from attached teaching hospitals (ALLIED & DHQ hospital). Keeping abreast with modern trends in diagnostic medicine, fine needle aspiration cytology was introduced.

The performance in professional examination is remarkable and during the last ten years more than five times there was a position in 3rd Professional Examinations at University level.
