Department
of neurosurgery was established at Allied Hospital, Punjab
Medical College Faisalabad in 1990. Initially it was attached
with Surgical Unit-I. Six beds were allocated at that time and
staff consisted of one Assistant Professor with two house
surgeons. The Department was latter on shifted to newer place
and the posts of Associate Professor and Professor were created
and now it is a full flagged neurosurgical unit with fully
equipped operation theaters and all neuro-diagnostic facilities.
All sorts of neurosurgical patients are treated and operations
are carried out. This is the third largest unit in the Punjab.
Regarding teaching and training facilities the Department is
affiliated with the University of Health Sciences Punjab for M.S
(Neurosurgery), and F.C.P.S Part-II training is recognized by
the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan, Karachi.

This
Department was established by Dr. Tariq Salah-ud-Din who was
appointed as first Assistant Professor in 1990, the Department
has so far published 18 research papers in different national
and international journals. This Department has the honor of
holding the 11 th National Neurosurgical Conference & Workshops
on Microsurgery & Stereotactic Neurosurgery. The Department has
produced four neurosurgeons who are performing their duties as
SA and Assistant Professor. At least six postgraduate students
are working in the Department.
For the
last two years the Department is working with Dr. Tariq Ahmad,
as Head of the Department, there is one Assistant Professor &
two Senior Registrars working in the Department. The team is
providing neurosurgical services to the people of Faisalabad and
Sargodha Division. We hope that under the dynamic leadership of
our Principal Prof. A.G. Rehan this department will grow into a
Center of Excellence.
