Medical
Unit_1 is 60 Bedded Teaching unit affiliated with Punjab Medical
College Faisalabad. Unit is equipped with 12 bedded CCU
providing state of the art services to cardiac patients. It is
fully equipped with bed side monitors, pulse oximeters, central
oxygen supply & central cardiac monitor. Medical Unit-I is also
taking care of Endoscopy suit of Allied Hospital in which more
than 200 endoscopies, more than 50 colonscopies and around 30
sigmoidoscopies are done every month.
The
incharge of unit is Professor Dr. Zahid Yasin Hashmi who also is
head of Medicine Department of Punjab Medical College/Allied/DHQ
Hospitals Faisalabad. Dr. Zahid Yasin Hashmi is the President of
the Faisalabad Chapter of Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology
and Hepatology and is also the President of Faisalabad Chapter
of Diabetic Association of Pakistan. He is the chairman of liver
foundation trust / liver center established as DHQ Hospital
Faisalabad which is affiliated with Medical Unit-I as well Liver
center is one of its kind in Pakistan and is a unique example of
private public collaboration. Professor Zahid Yasin Hashmi has
more than 50 research papers of his credit which have been
published in various international and local journals. He is
also the author of 3 books published for undergraduate medical
students.
At present
there are more than 28 post graduate trainee medical officers
working under his supervision. Majority of FCPS consultants
rendering their services at various government and private
hospitals in Faisalabad have been trained under supervision of
Professor Zahid Yasin Hashmi.
The unit
strength is two Assistant Professors and three Senior
Registrars. The Assistant Professors are Dr. Amir Shoukat and
Dr. Maqsood Ahmad. Dr. Amir Shoukat is FCPS (Medicine) & MRCP
(UK) as well. Dr. Maqsood Ahmad is FCPS (Medicine). Dr. Muhammad
Arif, Dr. Israr & Dr. Masood Javed are also FCPS in Medicine and
are the senior registrars of this unit. Collectively they have
more than 40 research papers do their credit.
Administrative registrar of Medical Unit-I is Dr. Muhammad Irfan
who have four research papers in his credit and coordination
registrar is Dr. Mubarik Ali. For continued medical education,
the unit holds weekly CPC's and monthly Physician from meeting
and intends to conduct at least 5 international conference per
year. The unit boots itself of being acting platform for
containing awareness regarding diabetes mellitus and liver
disease for which regular refresher courses for journals public
& internist are held on regular basis. This is in addition to
general public awareness lectures and demonstration.
Hamza Ward
(MU-IO is a 62 bedded teaching unit of Allied Hospital
affiliated with Punjab Medical College. The head of unit is
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bilal. Dr. Ghazanfar Sindhu is the Asso.
Professor. Unit's
special field of interest includes Gastroentrology, Hepatology
and Diabetes Mellitus.
Facilities
provided includes twice weekly GI Endoscopies & relevant
procedures, for which all the post graduates are being trained.
Medical Unit-II is also associated with the running of the only
second poison center in Punjab, which is affiliated with WHO &
Ministry of Health Govt. of Pakistan. The unit is very busy with
handling all typical & atypical poisoning cases 7 days a week.
For
continued medical education this year M-II in collaboration with
FSGE held the honour of managing 7th Annual International
Conference of Gasteroentrology & Hepatology which was the first
International event of its kind in Faisalabad. Coming year the
unit is also organizing the first ever Annual Diabetic
Conference.
Teaching
activities of unit include conducting weekly CPC of
hospital/institution; for training of post-graduate students & monthly
meeting of all known physicians of Faisalabad for discussion of
their atypical & interesting cases with colleagues. In addition
to this, lectures of under graduates in classes & in ward are
conducted routinely.
The unit boosts the development of class room for the training
of postgraduates & under graduates students,
which is equipped with A-V Library, Multimedia, Books &
Journals.
This unit
is proud of being an active stage for community awareness
services regarding Hepatitis & Diabetes, which includes
training/refresher courses for the GPs and practicing doctors &
general public awareness lectures/demonstrations.
