Medical
Unit-I (Umar Ward) is situated on second floor, first phase of
Allied Hospital, Faisalabad. It is headed by Professor Dr. Abdul
Hafeez Chaudhry, FCPS (Med) & FCPS (Cardiology). There are two
Assistant Professors, Dr. Khalid Amin FCPS (Med) and Dr. Aamir
Hussain, MRCP (UK), two Senior Registrars, Dr. Masood Javed,
FCPS (Med) and Dr. Abid Hussain Zafar, FCPS (Med). Nephrology
Unit is also attached with Medical Unit-I, Dr. Noman Khurshied
is the Nephrologist of the Unit.
There are
20 Postgraduate Trainees in Umar Ward. Medical Unit-I has
emergency twice a week (Monday & Thursday) there are 48 beds and
a newly established Coronary Care Unit comprising of 12 beds. It
provides services to the acute coronary patients. It is fully
monitored and equipped with latest instruments. Medical Unit-I
also runs a diabetic & hypertensive clinic twice a week on
Monday & Thursday in which free blood glucose testing is
provided to the patients. Other sophisticated tests are also
performed from time to time.
Endoscopy unit Allied Hospital conducts
approximate 1500 endoscopies a year. The previous Head of this
unit was Prof. Dr. Irshad-ul-Haq. There are 13 research papers
on his credit.
Hamza Ward
(MU-IO is a 62 bedded teaching unit of Allied Hospital
affiliated with Punjab Medical College. The head of unit is
Prof. Dr. Zahid Yaseen Hashmi, who is the president of Society
of Gastroentrology Pakistan, Faisalabad Chapter. ,Prof. Zahid
Hashmi is also the Chairman of Liver Foundation Trust - Liver
Centre at DHO Hospital, Faisalabad; which is affiliated with
medical unit-II. He has 20 research papers published in local &
international journals & 2 books for under graduates to his
credit. The unit strength in addition to the incharge includes
an Assistant Professor and two Senior Registrars. Assistant
Professor is Dr. Aamir Shaukat who is FCPS (Medicine) and MRCP
(UK). He has 12 research papers on his credit. The Senior
Regisrars of the unit are Dr. Hanif Nagra (FCPS) and Dr. Maqsood
Ahmad (FCPS), whose publications are 9 & 7 respectively. Unit's
special field of interest includes Gastroentrology, Hepatology
and Diabetes Mellitus.
Facilities
provided includes twice weekly GI Endoscopies & relevant
procedures, for which all the post graduates are being trained.
Medical Unit-II is also associated with the running of the only
second poison center in Punjab, which is affiliated with WHO &
Ministry of Health Govt. of Pakistan. The unit is very busy with
handling all typical & atypical poisoning cases 7 days a week.

For
continued medical education this year M-II in collaboration with
FSGE held the honour of managing 7th Annual International
Conference of Gasteroentrology & Hepatology which was the first
International event of its kind in Faisalabad. Coming year the
unit is also organizing the first ever Annual Diabetic
Conference.
Teaching
activities of unit include conducting weekly CPC of
hospital/institution supervised by Prof. Zahid Yaseen Hashmi
himself; for training of post-graduate students & monthly
meeting of all known physicians of Faisalabad for discussion of
their atypical & interesting cases with colleagues. In addition
to this, lectures of under graduates in classes & in ward are
conducted routinely.
The unit boosts the development of class room for the training
of postgraduates & under graduates students,
which is equipped with A-V Library, Multimedia, Books &
Journals.
This unit
is proud of being an active stage for community awareness
services regarding Hepatitis & Diabetes, which includes
training/refresher courses for the GPs and practicing doctors &
general public awareness lectures/demonstrations.
