LITERARY WEEK 2010

                                          DAY 1 (QIRAT AND NAAT COMPETITION)        

            It’s been a tradition of Punjab Medical College Faisalabad to celebrate literary week every year. This not only refreshes the mind of students but also depict the literary taste among the medical students which is very well appreciated by everyone. So keeping up the tradition this year literary week was celebrated on 12th and 13th of May,2010 with Miss Arifa Javed(final yr) as General Secretary and Mr. Ahsan Mehdi (4th yr) as the Additional General Secretary. They had with them the Literary Society team which was selected under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Janbaz Ahmad (HOD Pathology Department).

            

It was a two day function. On 1st day the competition of Husn-e-Qirat and Naat was held. The function started at 5:00 pm sharp with the arrival of Chairman of Literary and Debating Society Prof. Dr. Janbaz Ahmad , Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood (Anatomy Department), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Saeed (HOD Forensic Department), Dr. Ijaz Hussain Shah (Oncology Department). The guests were received by the members of Literary Society and were warmly welcomed. After being seated on the stage the function formally began. Miss Asma Hafeez of 4th yr (Secretary of Naat) mentioned the rules which were to be followed by the candidates. Then Hafiz Muhammad Yasin (2nd yr) and Hafiz Muhammad Zaman (3rd yr) invited the participants one by one. There were 3 participants from each class. The participants recited verses from the Holy Quran in their beautiful voices. The audience was deeply involved and there was pin-drop silence in the auditorium. After all the participants had recited verses from the Holy Quran, the judges were invited on the stage and were presented souvenirs by the Chief Guest and Chief Guest was presented the souvenir by Chairman Literary Society, Prof Dr. Janbaz Ahmed.
Then finally the judges 'Maulana Ubaid' and 'Allama Noor-ul-Islam' announced the results which are as follows:
                       1st position: Hafiz Zaman Malik (3rd yr)
                       2nd position: Hafiz Muhammad Yasin (2nd yr)
                       3rd position: Marium Khalid (1st yr)

Then the function commenced to the Naat Competition. There were 3 participants from each class. Asma Hafeez (4th yr), Hooria Asghar (4th yr), Dabeera Masood (1st yr) and Jawad Iqbal (1st yr) conducted the stage and invited the participants one by one. After all the participants had paid homage to the Holy Prophet PBUH in their unique styles, the judges were presented souvenirs by the worthy Chief Guest. The Chief Guest was also presented a shield by the Chairman Literary Society.
Then the judges 'Shahid Niazi' and 'Zakir Hashmi' announced the results which are as follows:
 

                      1st position: Asma Hafeez (4th yr)
                      2nd position: Mehwish Masood (final yr)
                      3rd position: Khakan Ahmad (2nd yr)
 

          

The shields were awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders by the Chief Guest. The members of Qirat, Naat and Mushaira Section of Literary Society were also awarded with the shields. This was followed by the refreshment in Pathology Department. In this way, the first day of the literary week came to an end and left special memories in our hearts.


 

               DAY 2 (URDU, PUNJABI & ENGLISH DEBATES COMPETITION) 

This function started at 11:00 am sharp, graced by our worthy Principal Prof. Dr. Riaz Hussain Dub along with Chairman of Literary Society Prof. Dr. Janbaz Ahmad, the Guest of Honour Prof. Riaz-ul-Haq (Rector of University of  Faisalabad). It was supervised by Prof. Dr. Ijaz Hussain Shah (Oncology department) and Dr. Imtiaz Dogar (Psychiatry Department). Other guests included Prof. Dr. Hafiz Imtiaz Ahmad (HOD Anatomy Department), Prof. Dr. Ijaz Hussain Shah (Oncology Department), Prof. Dr. Mian Farooq Ahmad (HOD ENT Unit 1). Prof. Dr.Muhammad Ali Tirmizi (HOD ENT Unit 2), Prof. Dr.Ahmad Saeed (HOD Forensic Department), Dr. Tayyaba (Gynaecology Department), Dr. Khalid Mahmood (Anatomy Department), Dr. Najaf Gill (Pathology Department), Dr. Zafar Hussain (Physiology Department) and Dr. Kaisar also graced the function by their presence. The college auditorium was packed to the full, even before the function started.
   Hafiz Muhammad Yasin (2nd yr) was invited on stage for the recitation of Holy Quran followed by Naat by Dr. Tayyaba Khurram. Then the compares Zainab (4th yr), Maimoona (2nd yr) and Hafiz Muhammad Zubair (2nd yr) invited participants one by one on stage. There were two speakers from each class. The participants were very well-prepared and captivated the audience with their unique styles and forceful arguments. The participants spoke both in favour of and against the topic. After all the participants had presented their arguments over the topic, the judges were called on stage to announce the results and were presented souvenirs by the worthy Chief Guest. The Chief Guest also received a shield from the Chairman Literary and Debating Society.

  The judges ‘Allama Zia Hussain Zia’ and ‘Dr. Zafar Hussain’ (Physiology Department) gave the following results:

                      1st position: Abrar Hussain (3rd yr)
                      2nd position: Hafiz Muhammad Zubair (2nd yr)
                      3rd position: Usman Khalid (2nd yr)

               

   The next section was of Punjabi Debates. Farrukh Aleem (Final yr), Hafiz Asghar Ali (4th yr) and Hafiz Muhammad Hanif (2nd yr) invited the participants one by one on stage and as expected, the Punjabi speakers were deeply applauded by the audience and the guests.

The judges ‘Ch. Ashiq Hussain’, ‘Allama Zia Hussain Zia’ and ‘Dr. Zafar Hussain’ (physiology Department) announced the results which are as follows:

                    1st position: Muneeb Aftab (3rd yr)
                    2nd position: Rahat Abbas (2nd yr)
                    3rd position: Hafiz Asghar Ali (4th yr)

Then the function commenced to the segment of English Debates. The topics were ‘It’s been so dark, that light I want no more’ and ‘The corpse of one man, the medal of other’. The compares Faisal Rasheed (4th yr), Sahar Iqbal (3rd yr), Jamila Ali (2nd yr) and Talha Niaz (2nd yr) invited the speakers one by one on stage to express their views in favour or against the motion. Again in English Debates, the participants were very well prepared and succeeded in grabbing the audience’s attention completely. At the end, the judges were presented souvenirs along with the chief guest.

                     

The result were announced by the judges, ‘Ch. Ashiq Hussain’ and ‘Dr. Zafar Hussain’ (physiology Department)

                    1st position: Ahsan Mehdi (4th yr)
                    2nd position: Faria Naeem (2nd yr)
                    3rd position: Fatima Madni (2nd yr)

The participants securing 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions were awarded with the shields by the Guest of Honour. Shields were also presented to the General Secretary (Miss Arifa Javed), Additional General Secretary (Ahsan Mehdi), Deputy General Secretary (Muhammad Awais Butt) and members of Literary Society of Urdu, Punjabi and English Sections. The respected Principal addressed the audience and appreciated the efforts of the Team of Literary Society and encouraged the students who participated in these competitions. Guest of Honour also blessed the audience with his words and Prof. Dr. Mian Farooq Ahmad (HOD ENT Unit 1) gave his thanking speech.

             In the end, the audience was served refreshments in the hall and the respectable guests and judges were taken to the Pathology Dept. for hi tea. This concluded what proved to be a great entertaining and thought-provoking function, one which most of us will never be able to forget.
