Dr. Rana Qaiser Mehmood
is working as an Associate Professor of pathology in Punjab
Medical College since 1993.He graduated from Punjab medical
college and joined the department of pathology, later on he did
M.phil in histopathology and was designated to the current post.
Dr.Qaiser mehmood is a very well reputed teacher and is known
for his dedication to work and students. He was kind enough to
answer our questions during the interview…..
Sir what was the influential
factor that inspired you to become a doctor?
Well, it was not my
choice actually. Basically we belong to a class where children
do not have a right to choose their professions. Our parents
have a pivotal role in influencing our decisions. Same was the
case with me.
If not a doctor than you would
have been…..?
I might have been a
good lawyer, or a politician or an actor
Why did you prefer pathology
over all other subjects?
I never planned to be
a pathologist but eventually I became one. Actually I did not
want to indulge myself into a career where emergency cases were
involved. Pathology interests me because together with teaching,
clinical and diagnostic work is also required which gives me a
sense of satisfaction.
What were your feelings
associated with pathology as a student?
At that time I found
it tough and boring and used to consult notes as majority of the
students did at that time but now pathology has become
interesting subject with the use of multimedia and projectors.
Sir, what are your views about
back benchers?
Backbenchers are
always cause of disturbance in the class and their indulgence
into other activities during a lecture is most annoying thing.
Sir, Were you a back bencher?
(he smiled and
answered ) yes I was one but I never disturbed the class.
Did you ever bunk a class?
Many times!!! (he
laughed)
Sir do you remember any
interesting incident from your college life that you want to
tell us?
Professor Mushtaq
used to teach us Biochemistry. He was a very witty teacher and
pointed out anyone who showed diverted attention or anyone who
was not following the proper dress code. Well he pointed me out
in the class for the same reason.
Sir what do you have to say
about Punjab medical college?
PMC is not behind any
other well reputed institution. Students of pmc are well said in
the practical medical life. Its an institution with beautiful
history and building. To make it even better, students and
teachers are required to put in great efforts.
Sir what is your message to the
students?
Medical life depends
on line of action. Those students who plan their studying
schedule and career carefully are always successful. Medical
students have to face a tough competition to get admitted in
medical colleges, so they are required to put in their best
efforts to be successful doctors so that all those years are not
wasted. I wish all of them best of luck.
