crisp wit. Following is an interview with Sir, unveiling a different face of
his personality:

*Your drive behind becoming a doctor?
Sir: My parent's will. In due time it became my ambition too.
My family physician was Dr. Rauf Yousaf. My parents had immense
respect for him & his work. So when I was born, I was not only named after
him, I was also aspired to become a doctor.
*Why do doctors' children become doctors?
Sir: To maintain family tradition. But children should be
encouraged to choose their fields according to their will.
*Tell us about your family?
Sir: My wife's name is Shahida. We had an arranged
cousin-marriage. She is a PhD in Iqbaliat. She has over 100 published papers
on this topic. We have four children:
Eldest daughter is a free-lance journalist & did her Masters in English from
Kinnaird College Lhr.
Second child Salman is a doctor.
Third child Zahra is in IIIrd year in PMC.
Youngest daughter is doing her Bachelors in Management Sciences from LSE lhr.
*Whom do the children idealize more, you or their mother?
Sir: Me! I'm very close to my children & they are to
me. I make it a point of spending most of my spare time with my children.
*You spent of your time in Multan, & later in UK, do you still visit your
home-town?
Sir: Very much so! I go to Sahiwal every
month.
*Tell us about Sahiwal?
Sir: Its a peaceful, clean city. People are
friendly & welcoming. An interesting fact about Swl is that biscuit of
Pakistan was made in Montgomery- Sahiwal's old name.
*Your village Noorshah is notoriously famous for its thieves. Is it true?
Sir: All kinds of people live in all kind of
places. Noorshah is more than a village. Its a town with a degree college.
*We have heard you travel alot. What are your favourite activities when you
go abroad?
Sir: I have been all around the world, except
Japan. I like going to museums, theatres & recreational places.
*What do you watch on TV?
Sir: I watch movies. Action & romance mostly.
*Your favourite Pakistani & Indian actors?
Sir: Among Pakistani actors I like Nadeem, Javed Sheikh
& M. Ali.
Among Pakistani actresses I think Shabnam & Musarrat Shaheen were great. But
Sabiha Khanum & Nayyara Sultana had no parallel.
Bollywood can not produce another Amitabh Bachan!
*Why do you think there is a brain-drain from Pakistan towards foreign
countries?
Sir: In our country there is no respect for
education so young talented minds are moving abroad. But people should
realize that this is their Own country! Money is not everything. When I
completed my studies in UK, I had a pay-roll of 2-3 lakh Pak rupees. But I
left it & joined Govt Services for Rs. 3000 because I loved my country &
felt my responsibility towards it.
*Your favourite personality?
Sir: Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)
*Any day of your life you would like to relive?
Sir: Undoubtedly my school days!
*When you look back at your life, what do you see?
Sir: I see a very contented life, full of
achievements. I have not missed out on anything. I'm a happy man!
*Any message?
Sir: Have complete faith in Allah! Life, sorrow,
happiness, earning, cure- Everything is in His hands. Then why worry?
*Thank you Sir.
