Guest Lecture by Dr. Bakhtawar Khattak FACP

The first ever lecture was by Dr. Bakhtawar S Khattack FACP, who came all
the way from U.k. Lecture started at 10am. Dr.Riaz Dabb, Dr. Yousuf Shah,
Dr.Tirmizi and many other worthy professors were invited to attend the 1hour
lecture. 4th year and 5th year students attended the lecture in auditorium .Dr.Tirmizi
recited verses from Holy Quran along with translation. Dr. Bakhtawar gave a
start to the lecture by discussing some scenarios of diseases requiring
bronchoscopy. He the history of first ever bronchoscope which was rigid
metallic bronchoscope, invented by Prof.Gustav Killian in 1897.Japanese
invented Glass rigid Bronchoscope in 1950.Rigid bronchoscope can see only up
to 1st division i.e trachea dividing into main bronchi.
Bronchoscopy started with therapeutic use rather than diagnostic.
A part from diagnostic use its therapeutic uses are:
Tumor destruction ,removal foreign body, abscess drainage etc. In future
Virtual Bronchoscopy-3D approach with help of CT.EOCT-endoscopic optical
coherence tomography for looking into the cellular structure to see
cytology and histology and extent of tumor to guide the endobronchial
therapy.
Latter on,there was a question answer session and Dr Khatak announced prizes
for the 3 best questions asked in the end of informative lecture. First
prize was announced for Istikhar Ali(5th year),2nd prize to saif(5th year)
and 3rd to Faizan(5th year)
At the end Dr.Riaz Dabb appreciated the success of the guest lecturer. Dr
Riaz and Dr Yousuf awarded 3 recent editions of Annals of PMC which is
recognized internationally.
We expect this trend of guest lectures introduced for the first time in PMC
by Dr Riaz Dabb shall be continued in the coming years. INSHALLAH
