Ahsan ul haq (cardiologist)
on SYNCOPE evaluation

The second lecture was by Dr. Ahsan ul haq who came all the
way from USA. Lecture started at 10am. Dr. Riaz Dabb, Dr. Farooq, Dr. Farida,
Dr. Ahmed Saeed, Dr. Khurram Raja and many other honored professors attended
the lecture.4th year and 5th year students attended the lecture in
auditorium. After recitation from the holy Quran, Dr.Ahsan delivered the
lecture on syncope evaluation, one of the every day symptoms experienced by
all of us. Syncope mimics acute intoxication.40% people have syncope episode
once in life time. Vasovagal syncope has low mortality risk. It has electric
problems, motor problems, valve stenosis problems, hemodynamic disturbances
and peripheral autonomic diseases. Various types of syncope we come across
include: situational syncope, psychogenic syncope, neurologic syncope,
idiopathic syncope, cardiac syncope, postural syncope and vasovagal syncope.
The diagnostic strategy includes initial evaluation(4 questions)
1.Did patient suffer true transient loss of consciousness (TLOC)?
2.was TLOC due to syncope or some other cause?
3.Was disease present?
4.Is medical history suggest a specific diagnosis?
Diagnosis includes:
careful review of medical history and physical
examination.
detailed question about examination
bleeding disorders
seizure disorders
migraine
sick sinus syndrome
The diagnostic goal includes:
initial examination
risk assessment
neurological tests for TLOC
TREATMENT
as per course
avoid drugs
pacemaker implantation
Latter on, there was a question answer session and Dr. Ahsan comprehensively
cleared the concept of students who had ambiguities regarding syncope. At
the end Dr. Riaz appreciated the leading success of the recent introduction
of an on going guest lectures. Dr.Riaz awarded 3 recent editions of APMC,our
internationally recognized research magazine to make Dr.Ahsan recall
throughout his life, that he attended the bright undergraduates of PMC. The
students headed towards wards at 11am
