The
department started in 1981 in an Out Patient Room of District
Headquarter Faisalabad Shared by the Department of Psychiatry on
alternative days. The facility for inpatient was provided almost
10-years later in the Rehmat Ward. The Department has made
tremendous progress since then. It runs a very busy daily out
patient where (70 - 100) patients attended. A full record of
all the out patients has been maintained by the Department from
its own resources since 1981-82. The inpatient has 36 beds where
all types serious and complicated chest diseases patients are
admitted for management under supervision of one consultant
chest Physician aided by two specialist Registrars, one senior
Medical Officer and Four trainee House Officers. The Dept.
offers the facilities of Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy, Spirometry,
Pulse Oximetry, controlled ventilation with ventilators and
defibrillation, with ECG Monitors etc. This Department is
already recognized by College of Physician and Surgeons for MCPS
training and many of our young colleagues have benefitted
successfully by attaining MCPS and DTCD diplomas from the
relevant authorities and are serving as Chest Specialist at
various places in the Punjab. The House Officers are trained in
performing Chest Intubation, Pleaural Biopsies, FNAC and Lymph
Node Biopsies, in addition to the usual training in the
management of acute chronic diseases problems. The department is
actively involved i medical research, it has more than ten
publications to its credit.
