The cardiology Department of Allied Hospital
Punjab Medical College comprises of coronary care Unit and cardiology
ward. To star with there no plans to established a CCU and Cardiology
ward in this hospital. Incidentally a 10-bedded CCU was established.
This CCU was being run on rotational basis by physicians. Dr.
Iftikhar Rasool took over as first cardiologist. After his departure
to UK, the CCU again came under the supervision of physician.
Dr. Arshraf Ch. joined for a brief period. Dr.Khaliad Amin (Physician)
made a great effort for interior renovation full-fledged Cardiology
Department has been established in very short span of time. Later
Dr. Bilal Zekria joined as professor and Head of the Department
in March 2001, which gave great boost to clinical cardiology in
Faisalabad.

The cardiology Department
of Allied Hospital Punjab Medical College is a tertiary care center,
which caters large population of Faisalabad and its periphery.
Because of its also providing care to the population of adjoining
of Sargodha and Multan. A brief introduction of department is
as under.
There are 12 beds in CCU
whit all the monitoring facilities. Two to three temporary pacemakers
are implanted daily & 1-2 permanent pace makers are placed
monthly on average.
Thrombolytic therapy has now been very
well established.
4-beded, emergency room
with monitoring and resuscitation facilities has established in
CCU.
14 beds have been made
available recently for the stable patients.
Faisalabad is the second
city of Punjab after Lahore where PPM are being implanted. First
PPM was implanted in sep.1999, since then 24 patients of complete
heart block are treated successfully by PPM implantation.
Very recently first internal
cardiac defibrillator (ICD) of Punjab is implanted by the joint
venture of cardiology Depts. of Allied Hospital Faisalabad and
mayo hospital Lahore.
1) Echocardiography
2) ETT
3) Thallium studies and
ETT at PIUM under supervision of cardiology Department.
4) A bedside mobile X-ray unit.
5) A fully operation Fluoroscopy Unit.
This unit providing almost
all the facilities short of angiographies and Cardiac Surgery
for which patients are referred to PIC LAHORE or AFIC RAWILPINDI.
Efforts are being made to establish a second CCU with CATH LAB
and Cardiac surgery Theaters. Building plans for these have been
prepared by chief architect and submitted for approval.
Dr. Bilal Zekria along their team are best trying to develop this
unit at par with the best unit in the country. May Allah bless
us in all our future endeavors to cater the need for this thickly
populated area or the country.
