Punjab Medical College is being maintained by the Government of Punjab and is under the administrative control of Health Department. Presently, Punjab Medical College, Allied and DHQ Hospitals have been granted the autonomous status and being managed by Board of Management. The Principal of the college is responsible for all the administrative matters. A college Academic Council has been constituted (including Professors and Heads of Departments) and Principal of the college is the Chairman of the council. Next senior professor to the Principal act as Vice Chairman and Staff President while second senior most professor act as Honorary Secretary of the council. The Academic council determine the requirements of medical education in the light of policy directions of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and concerned University.

The College is affiliated to the University of Health Sciences, Lahore.

Present Principal of college is Prof. Ch. Asghar Ali Randhawa who is also head of Department of Anesthesia.
